The first time we discovered the Synology DS218 was when a long time client asked for our help because they had been just moved into a new office and were getting bids for having a server installed on their network. They had less than ten users on the network at the time, and the main goal was for them to have all of their data in one place so that all the team members would be able to access the data while they were in the office as when they were at home or on a business trip.

They needed the data to be secure and they needed private folders with permissions and access that could be defined by an administrator. They also wanted all the data to be backed up to a cloud service with minimal management.

After researching various options, we came to the conclusion that what they really needed was a high quality network attached storage solution that would also give them room to grow. No server and no gigantic bill for licensing and configuration.

We spent about 4 hours configuring the NAS before we went onsite to install it, and another two hours onsite. The was it! The Synology DS218 was installed and working. Since we configured the Synology DS218 there has been a total of two hours of technical support and remote administration. It is an amazing product that we loved so much that we bought one for our own shop.
